About the Concept

Ask MXP is a private concept demonstration exploring how BNMA's existing MXP member directory could work as an AI-assisted regional manufacturing matching engine. It is a design and interaction prototype, not a product, and not an official BNMA service.

Make MXP searchable in plain English

Buyers describe the job in their own words — 'stainless enclosure with finishing and engineering support' — instead of navigating a service taxonomy they don't know.

Increase member discoverability

Sparse listings rarely surface. Synonym-aware matching plus member-approved profile improvements give every member a fairer chance of being found.

Help buyers assemble local supplier teams

Most real projects need several disciplines. Decomposing a project into roles keeps more of the work inside the Buffalo Niagara region.

Data and permissions stay with BNMA

This is an interface concept. All official member data, verification and publishing permissions would remain owned and controlled by BNMA.

How the matching works in this prototype

  1. 1The request is parsed locally against keyword and synonym sets for capabilities, materials, certifications, industries and WNY locations.
  2. 2Each member record is scored per capability, weighting fields confirmed in member data far above directional signals such as appearing in a service search.
  3. 3Results are ranked Strong / Good / Possible, each with a written rationale that names the evidence it used.
  4. 4Confirmed evidence and potential-but-unconfirmed evidence are shown in separate, differently styled blocks so nothing uncertain reads as verified.
  5. 5For multi-discipline projects, the request is decomposed into roles and unfilled roles are reported as sourcing gaps rather than filled with weak guesses.

Safeguards

  • Private concept prototype — not deployed publicly and not an official BNMA service.
  • No claim of BNMA authorization, endorsement or partnership.
  • Representative demo data only; every record is labeled and incomplete fields are shown as not confirmed.
  • No live scraping of member or third-party websites.
  • No fabricated certifications, capabilities, testimonials, ROI figures or usage counts.
  • Matching is deterministic and local — no external model call and no invented facts.
